Vincent Labrune: “I am in shock”
In an official statement on Marseille’s official website last night, Marseille President Vincent Labrune expressed his shock at Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to resign. He had the following to say: “I am obviously, like all of the Marseille fans, shocked by this brutal decision taken by Marcelo Bielsa. Together we had found a agreement for the extension of his contract several weeks ago. Tonight, I struggle to understand how a simple meeting, on Wednesday, concerning technical details of this contract with a lawyer and our Director General can be the cause of this decision, even though all his desires were being catered for. The attitude and positive words of Marcelo Bielsa,…

STATS VIEW: Sofiane Boufal: Lille’s next Eden Hazard?
Heading into the 2015-2016 Ligue 1 season, there wasn’t arguably too much to be excited about for Lille OSC. Their best box-to-box midfielder Idrissa Gueye was sold to Aston Villa. Simon Kjaer, a reliable CB for Lille, was sold to Fenerbahce of the Turkish Super League. Loan spells for Divock Origi and Rony Lopes expired and Lille’s most reliable striker Nolan Roux is now playing for Saint Etienne. Lille last season were not a good team and the mass exodus of last season’s squad combined with relative inactivity in the summer transfer window did not hold much promise for a more fruitful upcoming season. However one thing that most, if…

Is there light at the end of Rennes’ extensive tunnel? (Talking Points: Week 3)
While harbouring no particular enmity towards Rennes, it is rare of late that there is an opportunity to praise the club, as their continued transfer turnover and general instability during Philippe Montanier’s tenure have made them an easy target. The revolving door has continued to spin this summer, as Vincent Pajot, Christian Bruls, Philipp Hosiner, Anders Konradsen have all departed, with Yacouba Sylla, Ludovic Baal, Medhi Zeffane and Pedro Mendes arriving. Add to this a host of younger players who had been on loan, (Wesley Said, Dimitri Cavare, Cedric Hountondji, Adrien Hunou) and there is no less of a surplus among the playing squad at the Roazhon Park. While the size of the…

Monaco Vice President reacts to Anthony Martial departure
Speaking on Monaco’s official website, Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev had the following to say on Anthony Martial’s departure to Manchester United. “We wished to keep him this season but Manchester United made an incredible offer that neither Anthony, nor AS Monaco, could refuse. Our project showcases many players and Anthony has proven his worth and potential on the pitch. Though this move was not planned, it shows the quality of the work undertaken by the technical staff but also that we were right to recruit him two years ago. We wish Anthony the best for the next chapter in his career.” Click Here: Geelong Cats Guernsey

Didier Deschamps hits back at Dimitri Payet
France boss Didier Deschamps responded to West Ham United attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet’s outburst of incomprehension on the weekend as to what he needed to do to make the France squad: “It does not bother me, the players can say what they want. I will not pour myself over the media in order to respond to them. This is not the first time or the last time. He is in training, I speak with him and tell him what I expect of him on the pitch. After that he understands, either he does it or he doesn’t do it… He has the right not to understand, that is not my problem. Dimitri is a…

UEFA considering other options despite giving Michel Platini a month to clear his name
Members of UEFA will decide next week whether or not to back another candidate from Europe for the FIFA Presidency, despite deciding yesterday after discussing Michel Platini’s situation that he had the “right to a due process and fair trail and the opportunity to clear his name”. Gianni Infantino, UEFA’s General Secretary, confirmed in a press conference that the European football body planned to give Platini a short, swift period of time (4 weeks) to clear his name concerning allegations of a questionable payment from Sepp Blatter which is believed to have been made in 2011. Platini was suspended last week by the FIFA Ethics Committee for 90 days, pending an…
