India’s men’s hockey team cut down on flashiness in the quest for structural solidity
There was no heavy-metal hockey. None of those breathtaking runs or thrilling forward marches. Few speedy counterattacks, fewer risks and almost no flashiness. Change the stripes and sport and it would feel like watching the recent Brazilian football teams – stripped of all the adventure, instinctiveness and fun in their desperation to ape the Europeans. In his first match in charge, Craig Fulton showed he isn’t afraid to tinker with the Indian DNA. He picked simplicity over style, focussed on defence over attack and slowed down the pace immensely. The man who has been one of the masterminds of Belgium’s march to the top of the hockey world wants India…

Player disqualified at smaller event for smashing racket on umpire’s chair loses at French Open
Four days after getting disqualified from a smaller tournament for smashing his racket against the umpire’s chair during a match, Swedish tennis player Mikael Ymer was back in competition at the French Open on Sunday, bowing out in the first round. Ymer’s exit this time was far more conventional and far less dramatic: Quite simply, he was outplayed over three sets by No. 17 seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy and lost 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 on Court 7 at Roland Garros. Was it tough for the 56th-ranked Ymer to set aside what happened at the Lyon Open on Wednesday, when he was defaulted from the contest against French teenager Arthur Fils…

Premiership: Brad Shields opens up on the hefty sum owed to him by Wasps
Former England international Brad Shields has opened up on the implications of Wasps’ downfall on himself and his teammates whilst also revealing there is a big sum of money that he is unlikely to receive. Shields moved from the Hurricanes to Wasps in 2018 and had a good stint with the side until financial disaster struck last year when the club was placed under administration. Since then, the club had two deadline extensions to secure funding to pay their creditors but failed to do so, meaning Wasps could not be deemed financially able to compete in the Championship. The result is a fall to the bottom of the rugby pyramid.…

Olivier Giroud sets out summer transfer window plan
Speaking to reporters at a French national team press conference, Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud revealed his plans for the summer transfer window. “I will speak to the coach about whether or not he is counting on me. Premiership: Courtney Lawes urges rugby’s bigwigs to step up and save the sport in England
Click:polymer clay dog figurine England star Courtney Lawes has called on rugby’s governing bodies to show their worth and actually do something about the financial issues engulfing the game. Worcester Warriors and Wasps have already been axed from the Premiership this season after going into administration, reducing it to an 11-team league. London Irish could follow them after it emerged that players and staff had not been paid April’s wages. Although the prospective American owners have attempted to allay any concerns, consistently assuring the squad that the money will be transferred over, it still shows the perilous position English clubs find themselves in. Most are operating at a loss, reliant…
