Chelsea EXCLUSIVE: David Luiz hopes Eden Hazard will ‘change his decision’ about moving to Real Madrid
David Luiz has told talkSPORT he hopes Chelsea can change Eden Hazard’s mind about leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Belgian ace all-but said his goodbyes to the Blues after Wednesday night’s Europa League final victory over Arsenal.
Hazard fittingly led the team to victory with two goals in Baku, in what could prove to be his final game for the London club amid claims he is set to join Real Madrid.
Eden Hazard speaking to BT Sport:
“I think it’s a goodbye, but in football you never know.
“My dream was to play in the Premier League. I think it’s time for a new challenge.
“I’ve made my decision. Now it depends on the clubs. Both clubs.
“You will know in the next few days.”
If it was his final game in a Chelsea shirt, he signed off in fine style.
But team-mate and close friend Luiz is desperate for him to stay at Stamford Bridge.
“I hope we can change his decision,” the Brazilian defender told talkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface.
“He is a great guy, a great friend, a great person and a great player.
“For sure, I am going to miss him if he is going to go, if he is going to leave.
“I am so close with him. When we started to play alongside each other, it was a long time ago. We both were so young, now he is a player where everybody in the world knows him and knows his class.
“If his decision is the best for him, I just wish him good luck because he deserves it.”
If Hazard does leave, Luiz believes Chelsea already have a ready-made replacement – academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Chelsea are expected to step up their efforts to tie the 18-year-old down to a new contract after a number of impressive performances for Chelsea and for England this season.
Hudson-Odoi, currently recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon, handed in a transfer request in January in a bid to seal a move to Bayern Munich having become frustrated by his lack of games.
He ended up staying at the Bridge, though, and enjoyed a bigger role in team before suffering injury in April.
He is expected to be fit again early next season and Luiz believes the English youngster has the potential to have a huge future for the Blues.
“I think we will miss Eden a lot, but Chelsea has a fantastic team and this is part of the cycle, part of life,” added the Brazilian.
“Now we have an opportunity to make players be like Eden.
“Callum is our boy from the academy, he’s got talent and has the opportunity to be a legend one day.”
