Chelsea vs Manchester United: Liverpool legend Didi Hamann backs Red Devils to win FA Cup fifth round clash
Liverpool legend Didi Hamann says Manchester United will get back to winning ways when they visit Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday evening.
talkSPORT brings you full live commentary of the showpiece clash of the round, with one of last year’s finalists set to be knocked out the competition before the quarter-finals.
Chelsea come into the game on the back of a narrow Europa League defeat of Malmo which did little to ease the pressure on manager Maurizio Sarri.
It is believed Sarri is at risk of losing his job following a run of poor results, including the 6-0 humbling at Manchester City eight days ago.
The Italian’s position is juxtaposed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s at Old Trafford; Sarri is a permanent manager who could lose his job, while Solskjaer is a caretaker boss in frame for a permanent position.
Many want Solskjaer to be handed the United job on a full-time basis after going unbeaten in his first 11 matches since succeeding Jose Mourinho in the dugout, though recent joy was tempered when PSG rocked up at Old Trafford in the Champions League last week and outplayed the Red Devils to secure a 2-0 win.
But that defeat by one of Europe’s powerhouses means nothing in terms of tonight’s clash with Chelsea, according to Hamann, who says the Blues are not at the same level as PSG.
Speaking to racingpost.com/sport, Hamann said: “You’ve got to ignore their defeat by Paris Saint-Germain – it was a result which told us more about PSG than United.
“Chelsea aren’t in that class and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can return to winning ways at the Bridge. This is the type of game we’ll see how much United have improved.”
The FA Cup quarter-final draw will take place following Monday night’s match, with the winners joining Wolves, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Swansea, Watford and Brighton in the last eight.
