Devils goalie Cory Schneider leaves game with undisclosed injury | Sporting News

Cory Schneider may be dealing with an injury, yet again.

The Devils goalie left the team’s season opener against the Jets on Friday and was replaced by MacKenzie Blackwood in the net.

No immediate explanation on Schneider’s injury or its severity was given.

Schneider, 33, has dealt with a hip injury over the last three years which limited him to 40 games in 2017-18 and 26 last season.

When he has played he has been good posting a career .916 save percentage, but his time missed in 2018-19 was a huge blow to the Devils’ playoff chances.

Blackwood filled in admirably last season, but he is still just 22 years old and might have a ways to go before being a true No. 1 goalie.

Devils fans will be holding their breath to see what happens with Schneider as the team hopes to have a bounce-back season.

Taylor Hall appears to be healthy again while New Jersey added Jack Hughes with the No. 1 pick and P.K. Subban in a trade with the Predators.

All of these things could lead to a good season for the Devils, but for it to be a potentially great season, they would likely need Schneider well.
