England Under-21s: How Young Lions could have looked at Euro 2019 with all eligible players, including Dele Alli and Marcus Rashford

England Under-21s will fancy their chances at this summer’s European Championship.

The Young Lions haven’t won the competition since 1984 but they travel to Italy with one of the strongest squads in recent years.

Aidy Boothroyd has a wealth of young talent to choose from ahead of tonight’s opener against France Under-21s, with Premier League stars such as James Maddison and Aaron Wan-Bissaka selected for the tournament.

However, the squad could have been even better. Despite being an Under-21s tournament, players are eligible to take part if they were born on or after 1st January 1996, meaning they can be up to 23-years old.

So how could England line up if they had every eligible player to choose from? talkSPORT.com takes a look.

Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are already established members of the England senior team, aged 20 and 22 respectively.

The two Englishmen lifted the Champions League with Liverpool earlier this month.

Tottenham’s Dele Alli and Harry Winks, both 23, were on the losing side of the Champions League final in Madrid. They, too, are regulars under Gareth Southgate.

Chelsea stars Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi are both out with long-term injuries and would’ve probably been involved in the Nations League if fit.

Hudson-Odoi, 18, earned his first call-up for the Under-21s earlier this season – but never played after his dramatic promotion to the senior side.

Loftus-Cheek, 23, turned out 17 times for the Under-21s before becoming a full England international.

It’s easy to forget Marcus Rashford is still only 21, given the amount of times he has started for both Manchester United and England.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho has wasted no time on the international stage, starting in several important games under Southgate.
