Frank Lampard: New Chelsea manager says he will not have a nickname like former boss Jose Mourinho

Frank Lampard has said he will not copy Jose Mourinho and give himself a nickname after being appointed Chelsea manager.

The midfield legend returns to Stamford Bridge after putting pen to paper on a three year deal to succeed Maurizio Sarri, who left for Juventus.

Back in 2004, Mourinho joined the Blues from Porto, who he had led to Champions League glory, to replace Claudio Ranieri.

At his unveiling, Mourinho spoke with confidence and delivered what would become arguably his most famous quote ever.

“Please don’t say I’m arrogant, because what I say is true. I am European champion, so I’m not…one of…of the bottle. I’m a…I think I’m a special one.”

Addressing the media, Lampard was far more reserved and insisted he would not give himself any memorable titles.

“I’m not going to ask for a name. Self-proclaimed nicknames are not my style,” Lampard said.

During 13 successful years with Chelsea as a player, which included 648 appearances and 211 goals, Lampard played under the likes of Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Guus Hiddink and Rafa Benitez, but said he would not speak to any of them for advice.

“No I haven’t spoken to any of them (his former Chelsea managers) and as it stands I don’t plan to call them,” Lampard added.

“As I mentioned before I try and take bits from them throughout my career and that’s how I’ve tried to become my own person.

“If I felt the need to pick up the phone there are many numbers I could call but as it stands no.”
