Chelsea suffered another embarrassing blow in their bad month with a youth side reportedly holding some of their star players to a draw in a training ground match.
A team featuring Willian and Olivier Giroud among others took part in a 60-minute warm-down match against players from Chelsea’s excellent academy, with the youngsters making their mark by claiming a 3-3 draw.
The Times claim the match took place after a meeting between the players and Maurizio Sarri, the Chelsea manager, to discuss Sunday’s 6-0 defeat by Manchester City.
The thrashing at the Etihad was Chelsea’s biggest loss in 28 years, and made it four successive away defeats – including the shock 4-0 reverse at Bournemouth.
Senior stars who took part in the warm-down game against the academy team were the substitutes and unused squad players from the Manchester City defeat, and Sarri is said to have watched the majority of the 3-3 draw.
Chelsea have today been linked with hiring Zinedine Zidane as their next manager should Sarri lose his job.
The Sun report Chelsea’s hierarchy are starting to support the idea of bringing Zidane, the former Real Madrid boss, to Stamford Bridge, and they are discussing when to move for the France legend.
It is believed the Blues would like to make the change as soon as possible, though Zidane is said to be unwilling to take a job mid-season.
