Harry Maguire: Manchester United agree world-record £80m deal for Leicester City star

Manchester United and Leicester City have reportedly agreed on an £80million fee for Harry Maguire.

The England international would become the most expensive defender in history, surpassing the £75million Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

The Sun reports that Maguire will fly to Manchester on Monday for his medical.

It is understood the deal includes an initial £60million with an extra £20million available in add-ons.

talkSPORT told you last week that Leicester were holding out for £90million for their superstar, with Maguire desperate for Leicester to drop his price tag so he can join the Red Devils this summer.

The centre-back is thought to have told manger Brendan Rodgers he wants to leave during a pre-season training camp in France.

United submitted a £70million bid earlier this month, but this was swiftly rejected by Leicester.

Maguire was reportedly furious with the Foxes for rejecting the offer following a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that he could leave if the club received a reasonable bid.

Manchester City were also interested in his signature, but after being deterred by his price tag, the Red Devils look set to beat their rivals to the England World Cup star.

United conceded a staggering 54 Premier League goals last season as they stumbled to a sixth place finish.

They have prioritised the signing of a commanding centre-half after the £50million arrival of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

Napoli cente-back Kalidou Koulibaly had been linked with a move to Old Trafford, however the Italian club would also demand a world-record fee, with the 28-year-old valued at around £85milllion.

Meanwhile, Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt looks set to reject United in favour of Juventus.

Maguire, therefore, looks set to become the Red Devils’ third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Daniel James from Swansea for £18million and Wan-Bissaka.
