How long is Stephen Curry out? Injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Warriors star | Sporting News

The Warriors have lost yet another All-Star.

Only a few months after Kevin Durant (ruptured Achilles) and Klay Thompson (torn ACL) went down with season-ending injuries during the 2019 NBA Finals, Golden State guard Stephen Curry suffered a broken left hand. Losing Curry four games into the 2019-20 season is a significant blow to the Warriors’ playoff chances, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the organization take an extremely cautious approach knowing the team likely won’t be competitive in the Western Conference without him.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr will be forced to lean on D’Angelo Russell, Draymond Green and a number of young role players as Curry recovers from his injury. It’s unrealistic to expect the Warriors to thrive without Curry at the center of the offense, but Kerr doesn’t have other options because the team is hard capped and unable to make roster upgrades. All the Warriors can do is wait.

What’s next for the two-time MVP? Here’s everything we know about Curry’s injury and the latest news on when he may return to the court.

How long will Stephen Curry be out?

Curry is expected to miss at least three months following surgery on his broken hand. Here is the statement the Warriors issued on Nov. 1:

Stephen Curry injury timeline

Early in the third quarter of the Warriors’ game against the Suns on Oct. 30, Curry drove down the left side of the lane toward the basket. He tried to sidestep Aron Baynes, but he collided with the Phoenix center and crashed to the floor. As Curry braced himself for the fall, Baynes tumbled backward and landed on top of Curry’s left hand.

Curry stayed on the ground and appeared to be in a lot of pain. He eventually left the game with 8:31 remaining in the period, and since he was unable to shoot his free throws, he was not allowed to return.

Golden State later revealed Curry had suffered a broken left hand. He was taken to a hospital for additional testing.

“Obviously it’s been a tough start for us on many levels,” Kerr said after the 121-100 loss to the Suns, which dropped the Warriors to 1-3 overall. “We’re just trying to find our footing. Obviously this puts us in a tough spot. We’ll assess it, and we’ll go from there.”
