Jerry Lawler Cracks Corrente's Jaw?; Big Update On Real Life Confrontation
Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter
Here’s the latest on the Jerry Lawler/Sal Corrente confrontation that took place at Sam Town’s Memphis Wrestling show on June 15th that resulted in Lawler being charged with assault.
After the main event featuring TV announcer Cory Maclin & Koko Ware defeating The Masked Assassins in a cage match, it appeared that Corrente, the manager of The Masked Assassins, struck a fan. Even though television cameras show this not being the case, Lawler believed otherwise.
As Corrente was leaving the ring area, Lawler came out from the back, striking Corrente two times hardway. According to one report, the real life jabs resulted in Corrente’s jaw being cracked. After he was hit, Corrente retreated to the backstage area, proclaiming that Lawler had just stiffed him. Corrente was scheduled to work another angle at the show but notified security that he would be unable and would have to leave. He also missed the television taping the next morning.
Corrente has been said to be unpopular amongst many in the Memphis Wrestling circle, as he had rubbed several people (including Lawler, obviously) the wrong way. Sal made a lot of promises that he was going to invest his own money into running shows and acted like a big shot, but never materialized his claims.
