Jorge Sampaoli speaks after leaving Marseille: “Our rhythm and objectives are not the same.”
Following the announcement of his departure as Marseille manager this afternoon, Jorge Sampaoli took to his Instagram account to explain the reasons for which he has decided to leave the club.
L’Équipe had indicated earlier this afternoon that the Argentine had taken the decision in light of what he perceived as an underwhelming start to the transfer window ahead of the club’s Champions League campaign next season.
“From my arrival at Marseille, I felt at home, as if I’d lived there all my life. OM is a passion. Every time I’ve walked into the Vélodrome, my heart was bursting out. Last season has been incredible. Being manager of this club has been a pleasure for me. I was very happy.”

“My rhythm and objectives are not the same as those of the management. There’s nothing wrong with wanting different things. The important thing is searching for excellence and wanting what’s best for OM.”
“I would like to thank [club president] Pablo Longoria and his team for placing their trust in me. Thank you to the players for making football such a beautiful sport. Thank you to the club’s employees for giving their all for the team. Thank you to the supporters, as without them none of this would have any meaning. Until another time, Jorge Sampaoli.”
