Kylian Mbappé wants to leave PSG in January

Le Parisien have confirmed reports from RMC Sport that Kylian Mbappé wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January, with the forward said to be feeling “betrayed” by the club’s upper management.

The World Cup winner believes that PSG have not kept the promises that were made when he put pen to paper on a new deal back in May, notably with regard to his position on the pitch and as part of the overall project. His new contract, which Paris Saint-Germain fended off Real Madrid to secure, consists of a two-year extension along with an option for an additional one season, which can only be triggered by Mbappé’s decision alone. He has remained enigmatic about his future beyond his contract.

He is said to feel betrayed by club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the Qatari ownership, as well as Antero Henrique, who was brought back into the fold this summer to manage the club’s transfer negotiations.

Mbappé has notably felt frustrated with Christophe Galtier’s attacking system, and has publicly explained that he prefers playing in a two-man system alongside a pivot, like he does with Olivier Giroud in the national team.

Galtier has explained that the club had set out to buy a fourth striker this summer, to no avail, meaning he has had to stick with the attacking trident of Mbappé, Neymar and Lionel Messi for most of the matches this season.

After this weekend’s scoreless draw against Reims, Mbappé had posted an Instagram Story in which he used the hashtag “#pivotgang” in reference to this tactical malaise, having previously stated that he felt he had more freedom with the French national team. Mbappé had been lined up as the focal point of the attack with Carlos Soler and Pablo Sarabia behind him. PSG decided not to take action over the post.
