Lamar Miller injury update: Texans running back (knee) believed to have torn ACL | Sporting News

The Texans are losing depth in their backfield.

Starting running back Lamar Miller was carted off the field after a big hit from Cowboys defensive lineman Maliek Collins in Houston’s matchup with Dallas on Saturday.

The initial diagnosis is believed to be a torn ACL, according to a report from the NFL Network.

Miller appeared to be hit on the outside of his leg, bending it in the wrong direction.

The 28-year-old signed a four-year, $26 million contract with the Texans in 2016 making him a free agent after this year.

Miller rushed for 973 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games for the team last season but Houston was much better when he was treated as its bellcow.

Houston was 4-0 in games Miller rushed for 100 yards or more in 2018 and 5-1 in games he carried the football at least 17 times.

The Texans’ running back spot was not supposed to be a cause for concern coming into this season but it sure looks like one now.

Houston traded D’Onta Foreman to the Colts in recent weeks but acquired Duke Johnson in a trade with the Browns.

Johnson and Miller would have been a good backfield but the loss of Miller makes things a lot thinner.
