Leeds United documentary on Amazon released this week: Daniel James transfer, Lampard Spygate row, Bielsa’s first interview in two decades

Leeds United will this week become the latest club to release a TV documentary.

Manchester City and Sunderland have delved into the world of television in recent years with their respective Amazon and Netflix series being huge hits.

Leeds are now set to join them with their ‘Take Us Home’ Amazon Prime documentary, a six-part series that tracked last season’s promotion rollercoaster.

The club are using Leeds-based production company The City Talking, who recently made the film ‘Do You Want To Win?’, which told the story of the Whites’ top-flight title glory in 1992.

The episodes will offer behind-the-scenes access ‘from the boardroom to the changing room’ and will document the now infamous Spygate scandal, which saw the club fined £200,000 for watching opponents train.

The series will also see Marcelo Bielsa give his first sit down interview in more than two decades.

Leeds United documentary: What will the series cover?

‘Take Us Home’ will focus on Bielsa and his debut season in West Yorkshire following his arrival in June 2018.

The camera crew followed Leeds throughout the campaign last term which saw them finish third in the Championship before losing to Derby in the play-offs.

It will take in their highs and lows of the season with fly-on-the-wall access at training, on match day and in the aftermath of their victories, draws and defeats.

It will take a look into the Spygate scandal in which Bielsa ordered one of his staff to secretly watch a Derby training session ahead of their fixture.

Leeds won the game 2-0 but were then heavily fined for the incident and a national debate broke out questioning the ethics and spirit of the game.

Meanwhile, we will also get to see the full story of Daniel James’ failed move to Leeds last January.

A £10m fee and personal terms were agreed and the Wales winger had completed his medical but the move fell apart at the very last minute despite James being at Elland Road. He has since joined Manchester United for £18m.

‘Take Us Home’ will also provide a better picture of the club’s hierarchy with several scenes focusing on Chairman Andrea Radrizzani and Director of Football Victor Orta.

There will be insight from players, staff and fans as well.

Leeds United documentary: Released date

It will be shown on Amazon Prime like the Manchester City documentary ‘All or Nothing’.

It will be available of watch from Friday, August 16.

Leeds, who beat Salford City 3-0 in the Carabao Cup first round on Tuesday, face Wigan in the Championship on Saturday.

Leeds United documentary: What has the club said?

The document, which will be narrated by Leeds fan and Hollywood actor Russel Crowe, has not gone down well with all fans.

But the club’s managing director Angus Kinnear is excited about its release.

He said: “While the ending, in cinematic terms, is undoubtedly more Scarface than It’s A Wonderful Life I believe the series captures the commitment, unity and passion that players, staff and supporters have for our club and should give everyone great confidence for the season ahead.”
