Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Arsenal not far from ‘making next step’ under Mikel Arteta

Jurgen Klopp doesn’t believe Arsenal are far away from ‘making the next step’ and challenging for the Premier League title.

In discussion with former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger for beIN SPORTS, the Liverpool manager spoke of the intense competition in the Premier League and how he has to constantly evolve his squad.

And he said is expecting Arsenal to rival his side at the top once Mikel Arteta sorts their defensive problems out.

The north London club are sitting tenth in the table, a mammoth 31 points behind leaders Liverpool, but have shown promising signs under new manager Arteta.

“We have made good [transfer] decisions and that is what you need to make the next step in football because the other teams don’t sleep,” said Klopp.

“Manchester City constantly bring in players, Leicester, now, are a really good team and made really smart decisions in the transfer market on top of what they already have.

“Arsenal, for example, are a team offensively that are still a really good side but defensive organisation doesn’t work out yet.

‘The moment they sort that, they make the next step. So that is the league we are facing.

“We have to develop, it is not if we want to.

“We have to, to be as successful as possible.”
