Manchester City transfer news: Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac ‘confident’ of successful Leroy Sane pursuit

Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has revealed he is ‘confident’ that Manchester City forward Leroy Sane will join the Bundesliga champions this summer.

Bayern are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old, who found regular playing time hard to come by at the Etihad last season.

And while a deal to bring Sane to the Allianz Arena would require a lot of financial muscle, believed to be in the region of £90m, Kovac is optimistic of his side’s chances of landing the Germany international.

Asked by ZDF whether a deal to sign Sane is realistic, the Bayern boss replied: “We want him and the club is working on it. But I’m confident and assume that we can get him.”

The Croatian previously told Bild that Sane was the club’s ‘dream player’.

“We all know that Sane is our dream player,” he remarked.

“The public knows that, we know that. We will do everything to realise this transfer.”

City boss Pep Guardiola recently expressed his desire to keep Sane at the Etihad, but admitted the club would not stand in his way should they receive a suitable offer and he wishes to leave.

“We want him to stay. So it’s not in our hands – he has to decide,” he admitted.

“If he wants and there is an agreement then it’s good, but if he wants to leave he can do it – but we will be sad. Hopefully he stays.

“Leroy is a guy who I appreciate a lot – I like him a lot. I think he has an incredible gap to be better in terms of being connected in the game.”
