Manchester United fans have started printing ‘De Ligt 5’ on their new adidas home shirts

Matthijs De Ligt’s future may not yet be sorted, but this has not deterred several optimistic Manchester United supporters from getting excited.

The Ajax captain is one of the most in-demand players in world football after a stellar season domestically and for the Netherlands on the international stage.

Barcelona and United appeared to be the front-runners for the 19-year-old’s signature, but Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are reportedly also sniffing around.

But several Red Devils supporters are so confident De Ligt will move to Old Trafford they have decided to get ‘De Ligt 5’ on the new adidas home shirts.

“This is how confident I am with the De Ligt deal.” said one Twitter user, while another posted a picture of the club website, saying: “I got mine last month keep up.”

Speculation about De Ligt’s future has intensified over the past 24 hours after the player’s girlfriend was reportedly spotted house hunting in Paris.

Annekee Molenaar has reportedly left the Bahamas where the couple are currently holidaying and flown to France with De Ligt’s mother Christiane to look at properties in the capital this week.

De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola has also been in France recently, where he met with Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director Antero Henrique.

But Man United fans should not panic just yet, as fellow Dutch wonderkid Frenkie De Jong also looked at French properties while being wooed by the Ligue 1 champions.

Instead, the 21-year-old midfielder decided to sign for Barcelona in a £67milllion deal which will go through this summer.

Should the centre back opt to move to Manchester, the number five shirt is in fact available.

Marcos Rojo was the previous occupant of the shirt, but switched to No.16.

De Ligt currently wears No.3 for the Netherlands and No4. for Ajax, but these are occupied at Old Trafford by Luke Shaw and Phil Jones, respectively.
