Matteo Guendouzi is a ‘warrior’, Arsenal legend Robert Pires says, who regularly hands out advice to youngsters along with Thierry Henry
Robert Pires has been letting Arsenal’s younger players know the importance of playing for the club.
Pires, who was part of the Gunners’ legendary 2004 ‘Invincibles’ squad, also reserved special praise for 20-year-old Matteo Guendouzi, calling him a ‘warrior’.
“As an Arsenal player it’s important for them to know where they are. This is an important club,” he told the Athletic.
“The shirt is important. The history is important. Talking about that helps to build confidence in the players.
“That’s why for some of the old players, whether it is me or Thierry [Henry] or someone else, like to give their advice.”

Pires, who often joins in with training at London Colney, was particularly impressed by Guendouzi in the 2-2 draw against Spurs.
“Matteo is a warrior. He had a fantastic match. He’s a combative player and what I like about him is that he is consistent with that.
“He does his job, patrolling defensive midfield, winning the ball, tackling well, and then playing the ball quickly and simply.
“That’s why he is an important player for Unai [Emery] and for Arsenal.”
