Melbourne City midfielder Joshua Brillante has tooth knocked out by Adelaide City goalkeeper but finds it on the pitch shortly after

Melbourne City midfielder Joshua Brillante may want to book an appointment with his dentist after losing his tooth at the weekend.

Brillante played a key role in Melbourne’s 2-1 win over Adelaide City in the A-League at the AAMI Park, but took a painful knock for his troubles.

Although it appeared innocuous, footage from Fox Sports shows the midfielder challenging for a cross from the left-hand side, only to collapse in a heap holding his mouth.

As play continues after the goalkeeper retrieves the ball, Brillante struggles to his feet and is clearly in some discomfort.

The midfielder then tries to ascertain what is causing him so much discomfort and accidentally spits out his own tooth onto the pitch below him.

Not keen to stop play, the 26-year-old waited until the end of the game to find the tooth with the help of a member of staff.

Three precious points will have eased Brillante’s pain, with Jamie McClaren scoring a brace to secure a 2-1 win for the Citizens.

The former Fiorentina midfielder will hope to have a replacement tooth installed when City visit Western United on October 27
