Newcastle United news: Isaac Hayden backs record signing Miguel Almiron to be a success on Tyneside
Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden has backed club-record signing Miguel Almiron to be a success on Tynside.
Almiron, a £20million capture from MLS club Atlanta United, made his debut in their 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday.
The attacking midfielder came on for the remaining 19 minutes at Molineux and looked lively.
Midfielder Hayden, whose opener was cancelled out by Wolves defender Willy Boly in the 95th minute, is excited by Almiron’s arrival.
He said: “He has been top drawer, especially coming from a foreign country and the MLS, which is a completely different level.
“Even coming on, he was a bit of a livewire showing what he can do. He got tackled quite hard and when he got up I said, ‘Welcome to English football!’ but he was smiling.
“You can see in his eyes he is really enjoying it and all the experiences. He will get better and better and I think he will be a great asset to Newcastle.
“I had seen a few clips of him on YouTube, so we kind of had an inkling of what he was about. But it is a credit to him he was sticking himself out, digging deep, tracking back and tackling.
“If he can do that as well as what he does going forward then he is going to be fitting in right away.
“We haven’t really got players who can make the difference by themselves, we are more of a team who works hard and sticks to the game plan and helps each other out and sticks together.
“But maybe with a player who is more of a dribbler, who has that extra bit of pace or whatever, he can make the difference.
“Playing off Salomon Rondon up front as well makes a massive difference. The players can get around him and cause damage.”
Almiron, 25, will need to hit the ground running with Newcastle just one point above the relegation zone.
The Paraguay international scored 13 goals and registered 11 assists in the MLS last season – and the Magpies are hoping he can bring that form to England.
