OGC Nice have contacted Claudio Ranieri in case Lucien Favre makes Dortmund move

News filtered through yesterday that OGC Nice manager Lucien Favre is an individual in high demand. Having rebuffed approaches from Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen, Favre is now in informal discussions with Borussia Dortmund, a club that he is certainly interested by.

Dortmund can offer Favre power in the transfer market and on the European stage that OGC Nice cannot currently. The Swiss coach has never had the opportunity to take a side into the top stages of the Champions League.

Lyon are also interested in Favre, but Les Gones do not offer a project that represents a big enough step up for the Swiss to consider leaving Nice when he has another two years on his current contract.

Nice have been aware that Lucien Favre would be in high demand this summer and continue to intend to do everything in their power to keep the former Gladbach boss at the club for next season.

However, ever the master-planners that they are, Nice are making contingency plans. France Football report that Nice have made contact with Claudio Ranieri about possibly replacing Favre should the latter leave – the Italian man’s entourage have not hid this reality. West Ham United and Lyon are also particularly interested in Ranieri, but the Leicester hero currently has a soft spot for Nice.

Why? Ranieri currently lives in Monaco, which he has established as his primary residence and at the same time enjoys navigating around Corsica and Sardinia in his yacht. At the age of 65, Ranieri remains motivated to take on another job, but Nice would at least geographically and situationally represent a halfway house in terms of work and play.
