PLAYER RATINGS | Brest 0-3 Nice, Brest fail to break pacey Nice down after Schneiderlin red
Ligue 1 21/22, Round 20 – 9/1/22
BREST – 0
Marco Bizot, 5
Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel, 5
Brendan Chardonnet, 6 – He made a crucial recovery block on Dolberg’s effort just before halftime and was a positive presence after Nice went down to ten as a threat from set plays and in driving his team forward but to no avail.
Christophe Hérelle, 5
Jean-Kévin Duverne, 5
Lucien Agoumé, 5
Paul Lasne, 5
Franck Honorat, 2 – No real impact on the game, despite his side being on the offensive for much of the afternoon with Nice down to ten men. Brest’s key man this season was close to anonymous for long periods and it was his wayward header that set Nice away for the pivotal second.
Romain Faivre, 4 – A not unusual type of display from Faivre. He provided some neat touches and useful set piece deliveries but he failed to impose his personality on the game when his team needed a creative leader and struggled to create meaningful openings against Nice’s ten men.
Jérémy Le Douaron, 6 – Brest’s best forward, although he had little competition, and just about sneaks a six thanks to some waspish intensity and drive throughout. It was a surprise to see him withdrawn early having been Brest’s main threat.
Steve Mounie, 4
Others: Cardona 5, Said 5, Badji 5, Faussurier 5.
NICE – 3 (Dolberg 13, Delort 79, Gouiri 93)
Walter Benítez, 7 – Made a super snap save from a close range Mounie header in the first half and an important double stop just before halftime with Nice down to ten men. Solid but rarely threatened in the second half.
Jordan Lotomba, 6
Jean-Clair Todibo, 7
Dante, 8 – Commanding throughout a game suited to his skill set perfectly as he organised and blocked his way to a clean sheet as Nice sat deep following the sending off.
Flavius Daniliuc, 5
Morgan Schneiderlin, 4 – Unlucky to be sent off after sliding in without losing control to win the ball in the first half.
Pablo Rosario, 6
Hicham Boudaoui, 3
Kasper Dolberg, 6 – Understandably quiet after Nice went down to ten men but it was his skimming finish from the edge of the area that opened the scoring early on. He might have done better when pondering over a big late first half chance, however, allowing Chardonnet to make a block.
Justin Kluivert, 6 – A skipping run down the left opened Brest up for Dolberg’s early opener and he did brilliantly to create another chance for Dolberg just before the break with his team down to ten. He was perhaps lucky to avoid a second yellow, however.
Amine Gouiri, 7 – Quiet for long periods after the sending off but provided an exacting run and deft assist for Delort to make it 2-0 before a glorious run and curling finish for 3-0.
Others: Thuram 5, Claude-Maurice 5, Delort 6.
