Diving in football has been a hot topic for a number of years with players willing to bend the rules in order to gain their team any advantage.
Simulation is part of the modern game now and what was once blamed on the Premier League’s foreign imports has manifested itself among a number of English players and occurs on a regular basis.
This season, 18 players have been booked for a form of simulation, with Tottenham midfielder Heung-Min Son the latest to literally fall foul of the law.
Son became the fourth Spurs player to be booked this term when he went down in the box following a challenge from Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.
They have also had Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Danny Rose shown yellow for their attempts at conning the law.
That is the joint-most of any Premier League team, with north London rivals Arsenal also on four and they have a top flight record as a result of diving.
Back in December, Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi and Matteo Guendouzi all had issues with gravity and thus ended up being booked.
Huddersfield are next on the list with two bookings. In October’s 1-1 draw, Burnley manager Sean Dyche referred to Laurent Depoitre’s theatrics as ’embarrassing’ and they are one of eleven clubs in the league to have had a player booked for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Fulham forward Aboubakar Kamara committed one of the worst dives of this or any other season when he tried to con referee Andre Marriner with a woeful attempt against Bournemouth.
