Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane makes Paul Pogba a ‘priority’ – with Eden Hazard is set to sign, according to leading French journlaist
Signing Paul Pogba is a ‘priority’ for Zinedine Zidane, with the Manchester United midfielder likely to move to Spain this summer.
That’s according to leading French journalist Julien Laurens who joined Jim White on talkSPORT to talk about Pogba and his tumultuous season at Old Trafford.
Eleven months ago the midfielder lifted the World Cup in Russia for France – but soon found himself on the end of plenty of negative headlines.
His displays at Old Trafford were inconsistent and his public spats with Jose Mourinho were clearly detrimental.
Rumours of a move began to circulate and it is clear the 26-year-old still has his heart set on playing at the Bernabeu.
“Yeah, he’s very open about it,” Laurens said. “He was with us in March when we were there with the national team and he told us it is the dream of every player to play for Real Madrid.
“And he is in that state of mind right now. I think going back to Juventus is an option and I don’t think he would be against it completely.
“However, Real Madrid is definitely the dream for him. Zinedine Zidane has made him his priority alongside Jovic, who has already signed, and Eden Hazard who is on his way.
“There are a lot of obstacles between Paul Pogba and Real Madrid but I still think it is a very big possibility though.”
The relationship between Mourinho and Pogba began to deteriorate very slowly and then all at once in Manchester.
After arriving back from the World Cup, the France international did little to dispel rumours of a move away.
His antics on social media also angered the Portuguese, who could be seen very visibly arguing with Pogba during a heated training session.
And Laurens went some way to explaining why the former Juventus midfielder delivers on a consistent basis for his country and not his club.
He added: “I remember when he was dropped by Jose Mourinho, the season before last, going back in the March international break to Clairefontaine and being with the French.
“Didier Deschamps was like ‘this is your home, this is where you can clear your mind, forget about United, have a chat with some of your best mates, have a chat with me.’
“And Deschamps is a bit like a father-figure to Paul Pogba, he was the one to give him his first cap when he was really young.
“So it’s a different environment and also there are different players around him and surely the level of this French national team is stronger than the level of United this season!
“However, you have to say he should be doing better with United and more like the performances he has with the France team.”
