Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Erling Haland equals historic record set by Wayne Rooney with hat-trick against Genk

Remember the name, Erling Haland.

The wonderkid of Red Bull Salzburg has lit up the Champions League in his very first appearance.

The son of Leeds legend Alf-Inge Haland was incredible in his side’s first-half destruction of Genk, hitting a hat-trick in simply devastating fashion.

The 19-year-old’s treble has seen him equal Wayne Rooney’s record of being the first teenager to score more than once on his Champions League debut.

Rooney netted a hat-trick for Manchester United against Fenerbahçe, and Haland has replicated the feat suit by doing the same in Salzburg.

He also became just the eighth player to score three times in his first ever Champions League game.

This was nothing new from the teenager either, who is already smashing several scoring records despite only being on the scene a matter of weeks.

Haland scored 9 goals in one game at the U20 World Cup in May – and he remarkably has 14 goals in just 8 games for Salzburg this season.

We could be about to hear a lot more about this youngster.
