Sheffield United news: Blades smash transfer record to sign Preston striker Callum Robinson

Sheffield United have broken their transfer record to sign Preston North End striker Callum Robinson who becomes their third summer purchase.

The fee has not been disclosed but is believed to be in the region of £8million for the 24-year-old, who was in the final year of his contract at Deepdale.

The newly-promoted Premier League outfit have already brought in defender Phil Jagielka from Everton and midfielder Luke Freeman from QPR for a then club record fee –reportedly £5million.

Former Manchester United star, Ravel Morrison has been training with the Blades ahead of a potential summer move.

Having joined up with his new team-mates at their pre-season training base in Algarve, Robinson described his move as a ‘massive opportunity’.

“I’m really happy, it is a massive opportunity personally for me and I am really looking forward to a new challenge for myself,” he told the club’s official station.

“Obviously coming into a new environment, a new gaffer, a new set of lads, it is going to be a real challenge, but I am really going to enjoy it and express myself.”

In total, Robinson played 161 times for Preston and scored 40 goals.

His form has helped to earn him eight caps so far for the Republic of Ireland, but he is yet to score for them.
