Southampton vs Manchester United team news: Mason Greenwood remains on the bench despite striker crisis
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood continues to wait for his first start this season as he remains on the bench for the Premier League clash against Southampton.
Saturday is GameDay on talkSPORT and the first of our three live commentaries comes from St Mary’s in the lunchtime kick-off.
The Red Devils enter the clash with only one fit senior striker – Marcus Rashford – following the injury to Anthony Martial and the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan.
No replacements have been brought in for the outgoing men, and Greenwood was widely expected to start this afternoon, with much resting on his shoulders for the remainder of the season.
The 17-year-old is considered one of the brightest prospects in English football and last season he netted 26 times across various youth competitions.
United are also without first-choice left-back Luke Shaw due to injury, and Ashley Young comes in to replace him.
Jesse Lingard has dropped to the bench following a poor run of form, with Andreas Pereira starting in his place, while Juan Mata steps in for Martial.
The hosts will have to make do without Nathan Redmond and summer signing Moussa Djenepo due to injury.
