Tottenham transfer news: Spurs interested in free transfer for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge
Tottenham are interested in signing Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has started two league games this term due to the form of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
The Mirror report Spurs are preparing to offer Sturridge a two-year deal to stay in the Premier League, with the player also linked with a move to MLS club New York City.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring in cover and competition for Harry Kane, whose current understudy Fernando Llorente, is also out of contract at the end of the season.
Pochettino’s opposite number Jurgen Klopp is believed to be reluctant to give Sturridge a new contract due to injury problems that have blighted his career.
Despite his lack of playing time at Anfield, Sturridge would be called upon if Firmino, Mane or Salah were injured.
And with Liverpool battling for Premier League and Champions League glory, Klopp might call on Sturridge if he chooses to rest his first-choice forwards.
He has proven to be a useful back-up this season, evident when he scored against PSG in the 3-2 win when Firmino was only fit enough for the bench, and when he rescued a point against Chelsea in his four-minute Premier League cameo in September.
