‘Tottenham would LOVE to be Chelsea… everyone would!’ – Jason Cundy makes stunning claim after Champions League win over Ajax

Jason Cundy began Wednesday’s Sports Bar show with the boldest of claims: ‘Everyone wants to be Chelsea – even Tottenham!’

The Blues rose to the top of their Champions League group with a late victory away at Ajax on Wednesday night, thanks to Michy Batshuayi’s 86th minute goal.

It is perhaps Frank Lampard’s biggest win of his Stamford Bridge tenure so far, with his young side withstanding plenty of pressure from last season’s semi-finalists to claim a huge victory.

And former Chelsea defender Cundy said following the game that, apart from Liverpool and Manchester City, all other clubs would die to be in Chelsea’s current position.

A shadow of gloom had been cast over the club over the last few years. Despite winning trophies, fans were not happy with managers Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri and the mood became even darker when they finally waved goodbye to star man Eden Hazard.

But Blues legend Lampard has lifted the haze since his appointment in the summer.

Having been forced to dip into the club’s youth ranks due to their transfer ban, Chelsea now have a blend of youth and experience, a promising group of young British players and a hungry young manager who appears to have united the whole club in just a matter of months.

With the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Calum Hudson-Odoi looking genuine stars in the making, the future certainly looks bright at Stamford Bridge.

And talkSPORT host Cundy believes other Premier League teams would swap their current fortunes with Chelsea ‘in a heartbeat’, including London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal.

“Outside of Liverpool and Man City, I think Chelsea are the club everyone else wants to be,” he said on Wednesday’s Sports Bar.

“Liverpool and Man City are the side everyone wants to be, they are the benchmark, they are miles away, the best two sides by some distance.

“But everyone else would love to be in Chelsea’s position, [to Man United fan and co-host Andy Goldstein] in a heartbeat you would swap.

“Spurs would love to be Chelsea. They would LOVE to be Chelsea, 1000 per cent.”

As you might expect, that didn’t go down well with Tottenham fans, who quickly called into the show to challenge Jason’s view…

Cundy continued: “Arsenal would, 2000 per cent. Manchester United, 10,000 per cent! United would love to be Brighton!

“I’ll tell you why, Chelsea have a legend back in charge and there is real direction over where the club is going.

“Looking to the future, there is not a club out there that doesn’t want to be Chelsea right now.”

Batten down the hatches, Jason, there’s a storm of angry fans coming your way!
