Watch as Erling Haaland scores 20-minute hat-trick in dream debut for Borussia Dortmund
Erling Haaland enjoyed a debut to remember as he scored a 20-minute hat-trick to lead new club Borussia Dortmund to an incredible victory at Augsburg.
The 19-year-old €20million signing started on the bench but was thrown into the action after 56 minutes with his side trailing 3-1.
The Norwegian took just three minutes to open his account, slotting home after being played through on goal by Jadon Sancho.
England international Sancho then pulled Dortmund level two minutes later, before Haaland capitalised on good work by Thorgan Hazard to double his tally with a simple finish.
And the Norwegian’s treble was complete 11 minutes from time, when he tucked home a left-footed strike after receiving the ball from Marco Reus.
Manchester United may be left kicking themselves having been in talks to the sign the striker earlier in the January transfer window.
Haaland – the son of former Manchester City and Leeds player Alf-Inge, and who was actually born in Yorkshire – was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford to link up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who coached him at Norwegian club Molde.
But it was claimed United pulled out of the deal over the involvement of the Norwegian’s agent, Mino Raiola, and despite also being linked with Juventus he opted to leave Red Bull Salzburg for Dortmund.
Haaland’s lethal substitute appearance has seen him become the seventh player in Bundesliga history to score a hat-trick on his debut.
And he’s the first since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who also did so for Dortmund and wearing the same number 17 shirt.
Two goals from Florian Niederlechner and one from Marco Richter had seen Augsburg into their 3-1 lead, with Julian Brandt and Sancho scoring Dortmund’s other goals.
