WATCH: Gloucester lock Freddie Clarke’s JAW DROPPING dive to score in the corner

The kind of finish that would make any winger blush, Gloucester lock Freddie Clarke produced an astonishing acrobatic dive into the corner to score a try against La Rochelle in the Champions Cup.

It was an action-packed first half at the Stade Marcel Deflandre as Gloucester stepped up to the task of facing the Champions Cup holders.

The lively first 40 minutes included two tries apiece for each side, with Chris Harris scoring the first in the 12th minute after a penalty from Antoine Hastoy put La Rochelle ahead.

The defending champions hit back through hooker Pierre Bourgarit before Teddy Thomas shocked Gloucester when he pickpocketed Billy Twelvetrees after kicking down the touchline to score a brilliant try.

With La Rochelle leading 15-10 heading into the final 10 minutes of the half, the Cherry and Whites needed a response.

A 4 or 14?

They produced a magnificent one through the 1.96m and 114-kilogram frame of lock Clarke.

Gloucester launched the attack from a lineout with Ollie Thorley and Louis Rees-Zammit making inroads into the La Rochelle defence and took the ball into the home side’s 22.

The Cherry and Whites quickly attacked the opposite way, with Seb Atkinson throwing a long floating pass out to Clarke, stationed on the wing.

La Rochelle were scrambling, and Hastoy sprinted towards the second-rower in an attempt to tackle him in touch.

However, Clarke leapt into the air and stretched out his right arm to dot the ball down for a crucial try.

Twelvetrees was unsuccessful with the conversion as the two sides ended the half all square at 15 apiece.

This was the second outrageous finish in the Champions Cup, with Damian Willemse producing a similarly brilliant try for the Stormers in the win over Harlequins.
