WATCH: Wallabies legend scoops A$50,000 prize for hole-in-one at charity golf day
Former Wallabies centre Rod Kafer won a whopping A$50,000 prize on Monday after sinking a hole-in-one at a charity golf day in Canberra.
The 51-year-old was attending the Matt Millar-Sia Soliola Sleepin Rough charity golf day and on the 12th tee he struck a shot which certainly paid off.
Kafer, who played for Australia on 12 occasions, used a four-iron for the 198-metre par three and promptly sent the ball into the hole for his big win.
Charity event
The event, which took place at the Federal Golf Club, was the brain child of Canberra golfer Millar and retired rugby league star Soliola, who were looking to raise cash for St Vincent de Paul, a charity that assists people experiencing poverty and inequality and works to shape a more just and compassionate society.
Sponsors had kindly offered $50,000 prizes on two holes – the third and twelfth – and amazingly Kafer picked up the latter, despite a musical distraction.

“I’ve got the bar covered,” he told The Canberra Times before explaining that he didn’t think too much about the shot due to the songs being played.
“Imagine German polka music, but worse. I go to the backswing… I was at parallel [in my backswing], and the song changes.
“They put on something that was at least from this century. I had a chuckle to myself on the down swing and I hit the thing pure.
“I looked at my pro, Jake Nagle, and we were laughing because I got it pure and the song had changed. And he goes to me: ‘mate, it’s all over it’.
“I didn’t even look at it, I didn’t see the ball. We were laughing because of the song, we were looking at the green and I couldn’t see the ball. I thought it must have flown the green and Jake said: ‘no mate, it slam dunked’.
“The blokes in front gave us the thumbs up and it was mayhem.
“I didn’t even know it was $50,000. Honestly, I didn’t know. But look, I’m still negative $100,000 at least on golf through the career. So $50,000 is pretty sweet.”

As is tradition in golf after a hole-in-one, Kafer offered to pay for drinks for the 145 people in attendance that included sponsors and former players.
Kafer revealed it was the first time he has achieved the staggering feat and watching his son Ben play rugby was the icing on the cake for the weekend.
“I’ve played a lot of golf here at Federal over the years. It’s been great to get back to see Ben play, to get back into club rugby and to play here, it’s been a fantastic weekend,” added the former Brumbies and Leicester Tigers player who won the World Cup in 1999.
“I’ve had the great privilege of watching Matt (Millar) through his career, and have played socially with him. For him and Sia to put this on, I love the opportunity to be a part of it. And what a great day.”
