Wayne Rooney: Manchester United legend reveals he’s already received managerial offers from England and MLS

Wayne Rooney is yet to hang up his boots – but the former Manchester United and England skipper has already been receiving managerial offers.

The 33-year-old is currently plying his trade in MLS with DC United, grabbing the headlines earlier this week with a stunning long-range goal against Orlando City on Wednesday night.

And while Rooney continues to impress on the field, the experienced forward has also revealed he’s received offers to manage in both England and MLS – despite the fact he is yet to complete his coaching badges.

“I’m taking the steps to get my badges completed and when I finish playing I’ll see what opportunities come up,” he told Sky Sports News.

“There’s already offers which have been made, but at the minute I’m still a player and I want to enjoy playing, and then I’ll see which offers are right when I do finish.

“There’s an opportunity for me to go into management straight away, and when I do hang my boots up, that decision will be made on what the ambition of the club is first of all, and what my ambitions are and what’s right for both myself and that particular team.”

Rooney, who has scored 23 goals in 40 appearances during his one-year stint in America to date, has already been impressed with the impact some of his former team-mates at international level have fared in the dugout.

Frank Lampard led Derby to the Championship play-off final in his first season in management and is now set to land the No.1 job at his beloved Chelsea, while Steven Gerrard impressed in his maiden campaign at Rangers.

Furthermore, Scott Parker has been handed the reins at Fulham following their relegation to the second tier and John Terry played a vital role in Aston Villa’s promotion to the top flight – serving as Dean Smith’s assistant.

Rooney added: “I think it’s brilliant for Frank, but also for any young English players, or players who’ve just finished playing, to see big teams like Chelsea giving Frank an opportunity to prove himself.

“I’m sure at some stage over the next few years Steven (Gerrard) will get that opportunity at Liverpool.

“Scott Parker, John Terry at Aston Villa – it’s great for myself, who wants to go into management, to see these lads getting opportunities and it gives you hope that it will happen for you.”
