When Liverpool thrashed Tottenham 5-0 at White Hart Lane – will the Reds do it to Jose Mourinho’s side?

Liverpool have looked near unstoppable in the Premier League this season.

They hold a 13-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand and have collected 58 points out of a possible 60 this term.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are unbeaten in 37 league matches so naturally some are tipping them to eclipse Arsenal’s unbeaten run of 49 games they set from 2003-2004.

But Liverpool should not get ahead of themselves and their opponents will be determined to end their run.

Their next match will be a tricky one as Jose Mourinho welcomes Liverpool to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.

Mourinho has faced Liverpool 28 times in his managerial career, beating them on twelve occasions.

However, the last time he faced Liverpool came in December 2018 when he was in charge of Manchester United.

Liverpool won the match 3-1 and Mourinho lost his job two days later.

The Portuguese started well at Spurs, winning four of his first five Premier League matches.

But they got into some bad form over the festive period and have won just one of their last five.

And Mourinho will be very mindful of not letting Liverpool inflict the kind of defeat his former assistant Andre Villas Boas experienced when he was at the Spurs helm.

talkSPORT.com takes a look back at the time when Liverpool blitzed Spurs 5-0 at the old home of White Hart Lane in December 2013.

It was one of the most ruthless Liverpool displays during Brendan Rodgers’ time as Liverpool boss as they humiliated Spurs on their own back yard.

Luis Suarez was at the top of his game, scoring two goals and playing a big role in the other three.

Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan’s expertly taken half-volley got the other goals for the rampant Reds.

In truth, it could have been more with Liverpool missing a few good chances, including Mamadou Sakho effectively missing an open goal from less than six yards out.

Suarez got things rolling for Liverpool on 18 minutes. The Uruguayan played the ball to Jordan Henderson who returned it back to him before jinking his side and putting the ball into the corner of the net with his left foot.

It was 2-0 just before the break with Henderson’s volley, coming from a swift counter-attack and after Hugo Lloris made a great double save to deny Henderson and Suarez.

Spurs lost all hope of coming back when Paulinho was sent off for kicking Suarez in the chest after the break.

Then stand-in left-back Flanagan scored when he slammed Suarez’s cross from the right in-off the bar – the only goal Flanagan scored for Liverpool.

Suarez added another when he flicked the ball delicately over Lloris before setting up Sterling for a routine finish to make it 5-0 on 89 minutes.

This proved to be Villas Boas’ last game in charge of Spurs as he was sacked the following day. Beware, Jose!
