Why Corentin Tolisso pulled out of the Napoli deal

Lyon announced earlier today that central midfielder Corentin Tolisso will be staying at the club despite a €37.5m offer from Napoli.

The player had initially accepted a move to the Serie A side and had even informed Lyon manager Bruno Genesio about his decision, with one of his prime motivations behind the move being the belief that he could use Napoli as the perfect springboard to achieve his ultimate aim of joining Arsenal, a childhood dream, according to Foot Mercato.

However, in recent days Tolisso became aware of the pressure and hostile atmosphere associated with being a Napoli player, especially if you are seeking a move away from the club.

He apparently even spoke to members of Ezequiel Lavezzi’s entourage before making a decision on his future.

In the end therefore Tolisso decided to remain at Lyon and becomes the second player to reject Napoli after a long drawn out saga in recent years, the first being Maxime Gonalons.
