WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show Results & Videos (8/21): Brooklyn, N.Y.
WWE SummerSlam emanated from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday night and prior to the official start of the pay-per-view, WWE presented their pre-PPV “Kickoff Show” on the WWE Network, which featured three matches.
The first match to start the night off was the 12-man tag-team match, which featured The Vaudevillains, The Ascension and Breezango taking on The Hype Bros., The Usos and American Alpha. The finish saw Chad Gable and Jason Jordan hit their finisher, only for Uso to blind tag into the match and hit his finisher for the pin.
In the second match of the Kickoff Show, The Dudley Boyz took on a pair of former NXT Champions in Neville and Sami Zayn. This match definitely got the crowd going in Brooklyn.
The finish of the tag-team contest saw Bubba Ray accidentally clothesline D-Von, setting up the ending sequence. Zayn would hit his “Helluva Kick,” which was followed up by Neville hitting the always-entertaining Red Arrow finisher off the top-rope before pinning Bubba for the victory.
Finally, the first match in their announced “Best Of 7 Series” between Sheamus and Cesaro would close out the Kickoff Show on the WWE Network.
The fans in Brooklyn were clearly behind Cesaro, as he had them on their feet several times throughout the contest. In the end, however, it was the clever tactics and willingness to do whatever it takes to win that resulted in “The Celtic Warrior” starting the “Best Of 7 Series” up 1-0.
Sheamus blatantly poked Cesaro in the eye with his thumb before knocking him into the steel ring post before blasting him with a “Brogue Kick” for the victory.
That would wrap up the action in the ring for the Kickoff Show, as next up inside the squared circle was the tag-team match featuring Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens taking on Enzo Amore and Big Cass in the pay-per-view opener.
