“There was something with the coach, tactically and personally, which meant I didn’t get along well with him… I wanted to leave France,” the Swiss international explained. “Great players have played in MLS, the league is progressing, it’s a good league. This project is exciting, I wanted to try something new.”

Shaqiri (30) could reportedly earn up to $7m per year in MLS after his move last month which saw the former Bayern Munich and Liverpool man join the American club on a contract running until the 2024 season and Lyon receive €7m. Shaqiri had arrived in Ligue 1 six months earlier from Liverpool for €6m.

Bosz, meanwhile, recently questioned Shaqiri’s ability to fit into OL’s team while conceding the player was “not in the best shape at the start” of his Lyon spell which encompassed just 16 games, two goals and three assists in all competitions.
